DiGiorgio Family 2008 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon

The DiGiorgio family are unsung heroes of the Limestone Coast wine region, producing nicely balanced wines at very fair prices. This is a classic - and affordable - Coonawarra cabernet with ripe, supple and sweet dark fruit characters matched by black olives notes, soft tannins and unobtrusive toasty French oak. Made by veteran Coonawarra winemaker Peter Douglas in the historic former Rouge Homme winery, this ticks all the regional boxes and will probably cellar well for a decade or more. But my bet is most of it will be drunk relatively young - it's a hard wine to resist. $26. www.digiorgio.com.au.

Damn you Winsor! :)

The missus and I had a drop of this at a tasting recently, where we were definitively split - she loved it - I didn't. Now I'm just going to have to buy a bottle now aren't I?!

Cheers,

Winsor,

Finally found myself a well presented glass of this on the weekend, during an intermittence between the ASO's performance of Mozart followed by Mahler. Adelaide's Festival Theatre does have a tidy little wine list...

I liked it, especially in the value stakes! I found it quite rich, ripe - very seasonal - in a good way, and backed up well by length and structure. I could see it being considered 'reserve' by some. Wine just seems such a natural fit with classical music for me though.... ;)

Cheers,
Chris P
