Chateau Tanunda 50-Year-Old Vines 2022 Shiraz

Château Tanunda is an icon of the Barossa; established in 1890 and home to some of the region’s oldest vineyards. In 2025, Château Tanunda is celebrating its 135th anniversary and the wines being produced by the Geber family are outstanding; made in traditional forceful but balanced Barossa style. The wines are exported to over 35 countries - a success story by any measure. This is an impressively big and bold Barossa shiraz with a twinkle in its eye. While it can be enjoyed now, this could easily be cellared for a decade or two. A wine for pulling out for a special birthday or anniversary. Pair with a lamb roast, or T-Bone steak. $80https://chateautanunda.com/

Elderton 2023 Ashmead Cabernet Sauvignon

Power and poise come together in this flagship Barossa cabernet from family-owned Elderton. It's a substantial wine, but it is also elegant, not always an easy trick to pull off. The tiny Ashmead block, planted in the 1940s, has consistently produced small parcels of excellent quality fruit and is named after the family. Hence the Ashmead. The historic property was purchased by the late Neil Ashmead and his wife Lorraine, who made their first wine under the Elderton label in 1982. Today their two sons run the business and produce excellent wines at a range of price points. This is dark with chocolate and spice notes and a luscious long finish. Bring on a roast lamb and all the trimmings. $125. To be released on September 1, so worth getting on the waiting list. https://eldertonwines.com.au/

Henschke 2022 Keyneton Euphonium

Henschke makes some of Australia's most sought-after wines, including the $1000-a-bottle Hill of Grace, regarded as the best single-vineyard wine in the country. But the Henschke family - six generations in - also offers a range of far more affordable wines; like this red blend that would grace any dinner party table. A blend of shiraz and cabernet sauvignon, along with small amounts of cabernet franc and merlot, it is a very stylish amalgam of fruit from the Barossa and the cooler Eden Valley. The name pays tribute to an instrument used by the former Henschke Family Brass Band. This is a very sophisticated drop that be enjoyed now, or cellared for decades. Bright and beautifully balanced with oak playing a role in creating impressive structure. $67. https://www.henschke.com.au/
